Well Pet Care/Preventive Care
Routine Physical Examinations and Regular Vaccinations are very important to your pet’s
health. We are specially trained to recognize problems early, before they become life-
threatening, to improve our pet’s health. Talk to us about your pet’s immunizations;
there are many new options on vaccination protocols for pets. Microchipping can also be
done during a regular appointment time.
Puppy and Kitten Packages
Ask us about wellness plans for your puppy or kitten. We can tailor them to the specific
needs of your new pet.
Senior Pet Care/Geriatrics
Older pets, those over seven years old, require special care. We can tailor senior pet
care to your pet’s specific needs, including discussions on diet, exercise, vaccine
protocols, dental care, and general veterinary care and internal medicine.
General Surgery
We perform general surgeries when your pet requires, such as neuters,
ovariohysterectomies (spays) (click here to view video), declaw surgeries, lump
removals, and exploratory surgeries such as bladder stone removals or
stomach/intestinal foreign body removals. We recommend pre-anesthetic laboratory
testing and electrocardiogram (EKG) prior to any general anesthetic procedure. We use
inhalant gas anesthesia, and monitor your pet’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen
level during anesthesia. Microchip implantation can also be done while your pet is under
anesthesia
Dentistry
We perform dental prophylaxis and periodontal care for your pet. We use an ultrasonic
cleaner, subgingival curettage, polish, fluoride treatment, and OraVet sealant. Recently
we added a dental x-ray machine to your dental equipment. Taking dental x-rays will
help our doctors determine the health of your pet's teeth. It will also help in the
decision to extract a tooth or keep it. We also have dental care products for your pet,
from flavored pet toothpastes, to mouth rinses, to special chew rawhides, to t/d special
dental diet made by Hills/Science Diet. Your pet will be under light general anesthesia for
the dental cleaning and treatment; as with any anesthetic procedure, we recommend pre-
anesthetic laboratory testing and electrocardiogram (EKG) prior to any general
anesthetic procedure. We use inhalant gas anesthesia, and monitor your pet’s heart
rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen level during anesthesia. We can also discuss the use
of dental antibiotics for treatment of gingivitis and halitosis/bad breath.
Internal Medicine
Internal medicine is how we get to look at your pet from the inside, to check on how
your pet’s internal organs are functioning. We have an in-house laboratory to perform
blood chemistries, complete blood counts, fecal/stool analysis, urinalysis, feline leukemia
and FIV testing, parvovirus testing, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (EKG), and X-
rays (radiographs). For these, we usually have same-day results. Other more
specialized tests, such as heartworm tests and cultures, are sent out to other
laboratories, and we usually have results in 24 – 48 hours. We can also have ultrasound
examinations performed at our clinic, by Dr. Charles Rogers and his mobile unit.
Prescription diets can be very important in some diseases for prevention of recurrences
or for increased control of certain disease syndromes.
Dermatology
Your pet’s skin can tell us a lot about your pet’s general health. When skin problems
arise, we can perform medicated bath treatments, skin scrapings, cultures, allergy
testing, and skin biopsy as indicated. We also have available various medications to
treat your pet’s skin, such as flea control, antibiotics, anti-itch medications, and bath
treatments you can do at home. Special diets may also be available to help your pet’s
skin and coat.
Behavior counseling
Our staff has received special training for behavior issues in pets. We try to prevent
problems before they start, in kittens, puppies, adult pets, rescue and shelter adoptees,
and older pet behavior issues.
Exotics
We see various pets in our clinic besides cats and dogs – ferrets, rabbits, hamsters,
gerbils, rats, mice, hedgehogs, small birds, lizards, snakes, turtles. Please call us with
any questions you may have on these and other exotic pets.
Pharmacy
We have an extensive inventory of prescription medications and special diets. We also
can accommodate special orders. Our inventory includes heartworm preventatives, flea
preventatives and treatments, antibiotics, pain medications, and many others. Phone
ahead or order online!
Grooming
We can perform regular baths, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression at
our clinic. We also do clip down grooming only for those pets that require sedation or
anesthesia.
Microchipping
We have Home Again microchips available for your pet. It is a simple procedure, and can
be performed during a regular appointment or when your pet is under anesthesia for
another procedure.
Emergencies
We take walk-in emergencies during our regular clinic hours. After-hours emergencies
are taken care of at local veterinary emergency clinics. Call us for referral information
when you need it.
